Some classes at the University offer electronic methods and e-Learning tools to deliver information, receive feedback, and communicate with students. This includes web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual classrooms and digital collaboration. |

Blackboard Vista
Blackboard Vista is a learning management system used by faculty to deliver online course content. Login to Blackboard Vista with direct access or access course information after you login to 49er Express with your NinerNET account.
If you experience access problems, be sure to turn off your pop-up blocker for the Blackboard Vista page and check the Blackboard Vista FAQs before contacting the Student Computing Help Center or sending a help request with HelpDesk Online. Get more information about Blackboard Vista and other e-Learning tools.
Moodle
Moodle is the open source learning management system chosen by UNC Charlotte to replace Blackboard Vista (which will be phased out after Spring 2011). Moodle can be used to deliver course content such as web pages, quizzes, assignments, and more, all in a secure online environment.
Login to Moodle with direct access or access course information after you login to 49er Express with your NinerNET account. On the left side of your window, in the My Courses block, will be a list of semesters, or terms. The current semester should be expanded and if you have courses in Moodle they will be listed there.
If your instructor has informed you that they will be using Moodle and you do not see the course listed, you will need to contact the instructor.
Centra
Centra is a virtual classroom environment that enables you to attend class "live" from your home or office. Login to Centra with direct access or access course information after you login to 49er Express with your NinerNET account. You can see and hear the instructor as well as respond to questions with audio chat. Classes using Centra are automatically recorded, so that you can play them later at your convenience.
Check out the Centra FAQs, video tutorials and technical specifications.
Wimba
Wimba is a virtual classroom environment currently used in some Distance Education classes and will eventually replace Centra for use at the University. Instructors using Wimba will provide students with a link to the session, often in Blackboard Vista or Moodle.
If you have problems accessing Wimba, you may need to run the Setup Wizard and download the latest version of Java before entering the session. Also check that uncc.edu sites are set as trusted sites and that your pop-up blocker has been disabled.
If you need additional help with Wimba, you can contact the Student Computing Help Center at 704-687-6400. If the Help Center is closed, contact Wimba 24x7 Support at 866-350-4978 or email for assistance at technicalsupport@wimba.com.
Panopto CourseCast
Some faculty members are recording lectures and providing these lectures over the web via Panopto CourseCast. Your instructor will provide you with the class username and password (case-sensitive) required to log into CourseCast.
You should install Microsoft's Silverlight plugin before you view a CourseCast lecture. Watch a how-to video and get more information on how to access a CourseCast lecture. CourseCast lectures can be viewed on a number of computers and browsers including Windows Vista, Windows XP, OS X (Intel only), and IE, Firefox and Safari browsers.
Clickers (Personal Response System)
The Personal Response System (PRS) or "clicker" is a small handheld device with a display screen that allows numeric and alphanumeric input from students in the classroom. Instructors at the University use clickers to take attendance, grade quizzes and tests and track student and class performance. Data collected from the clickers can be easily integrated with the grade books of either Blackboard Vista or Moodle.
Students can view an interactive clicker overview/orientation and find out how to enter your NinerNET user name in the clicker. Get more instructions on on the Personal Response System (PRS) "clicker".
Direct Access
49er Express provides simple and convenient access to University services, including e-Learning tools, however there are times when the system may be unavailable due to scheduled updates or unexpected outages.
The following e-Learning tools have "Direct Access" links, so if they are not impacted by an outage, you can login to these services outside of 49er Express. Get more information about Direct Access.
Get Help
If you experience access problems, turn off your pop-up blocker for each site and check the additional information on Blackboard Student Support or the Centra FAQs. Get more information about e-Learning tools.
Students get technical assistance with e-Learning tools from the
Student Computing Help Center. Visit the Help Center in Barnard, call 704-687-6400 or submit your problem to the HelpDesk Online and a Technical Assistant will help.
Check the ITS Message Center for system alerts and the scheduled outages for additional information.
